computer with an USB cable. Open the computer device manager, when the port drop-down list shows CP210x
USB to UART Bridge Controller (COM3), indicating connection successful.

SCPI Communication Commands
SCPI
(
Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments), also known as the programmable instrument
standard command, it defines the way the bus controller communicates with the instrument. It is an
ASCII-based instrument command language for test and measurement instruments. SCPI commands are based
on a hierarchical structure (also known as a tree system). In this system, related commands are grouped under
a common node or root, thus forming a subsystem. The following is part of the DISPlay subsystem to illustrate
the tree system.
:DISPlay:PAGE:MEAS
DISPlay is a root level keyword, PAGE is a second level keyword, and MEAS is a third level keyword. A colon (:) is
used to separate the command keyword from the next level of keywords.
6.3.1
Command Types
SCPI has two commands: common and subsystem.
1)
Common commands are basically unrelated to specific operations and do control the overall
functionality of the instrument. For example, reset, query model, all common commands are three-letter
commands marked with an asterisk: *RST, *IDN?.
2)
Subsystem commands perform the specified instrument functions. They are organized into an inverted
tree structure with roots at the top. The following figure shows a portion of a subsystem command tree so
you can get commands for different paths. Part command trees are shown in Figure 6-5.
