8.9 Connection to an IT network
8.9.1 General safety information
An IT network is a system that transmits data via data interfaces (e.g. RS232, LAN, USB,
printer interface, WLAN, Bluetooth) either wired or wireless.
Connecting the MIRUS Controller to an IT network containing additional devices can lead to
previously unknown risks for patients, operators or third parties. Before connecting to an IT
network, these risks must be identified, analysed and evaluated by the responsible IT
manager. On the basis of the results, appropriate measures must be taken. Subsequent
changes to the IT network can create new risks and require further analysis and evaluation.
Subsequent changes to the IT network are (for example):

Change the IT network configuration.

Remove devices from the IT network.

Add further devices to the IT network.

Updating devices in the IT network.

Perform upgrades on devices in the IT network
To connect to an IT network, the following documents must be observed:

Description of the IT network

Description of the IT network-based alarm systems
If the MIRUS Controller is integrated into an IT network, devices that could be a potential
source of malicious attacks must not be connected.
8.9.2 Serial interface
Using ARKON Data bridge to the serial interface, the MIRUS Controller can transfer data to a
patient monitor.
During operation, data is transmitted unencrypted to the patient monitor and the following
functions are supported:

Display of parameter data

Signalisation of alarms

Transfer of setting parameters
There is no transfer of data from the patient monitor to the MIRUS Controller. MIRUS Controller
is not controlled by the patient monitor (e.g. pause audio).
