Stratasys P750K User Guide
Tall-Left Rule
This
ȱ
rule
ȱ
considers
ȱ
models
ȱ
where,
ȱ
after
ȱ
being
ȱ
orientated
ȱ
on
ȱ
the
ȱ
build
ȱ
tray
ȱ
according
ȱ
to
ȱ
other
ȱ
considerations,
ȱ
one
ȱ
side
ȱ
is
ȱ
taller
ȱ
than
ȱ
the
ȱ
other.
¾
Since
ȱ
the
ȱ
ȱ
heads
ȱ
move
ȱ
along
ȱ
the
ȱ
X
Ȭ
axis
ȱ
from
ȱ
left
ȱ
to
ȱ
right,
ȱ
taller
ȱ
sections
ȱ
on
ȱ
the
ȱ
right
ȱ
require
ȱ
the
ȱ
ȱ
heads
ȱ
to
ȱ
scan
ȱ
unnecessarily
ȱ
from
ȱ
the
ȱ
left
ȱ
until
ȱ
reaching
ȱ
them.
ȱ
If,
ȱ
on
ȱ
the
ȱ
other
ȱ
hand,
ȱ
the
ȱ
taller
ȱ
sections
ȱ
are
ȱ
positioned
ȱ
on
ȱ
the
ȱ
left
ȱ
of
ȱ
the
ȱ
tray,
ȱ
the
ȱ
ȱ
heads
ȱ
only
ȱ
have
ȱ
to
ȱ
scan
ȱ
the
ȱ
model
ȱ
until
ȱ
printing
ȱ
these
ȱ
sections—once
ȱ
the
ȱ
lower
ȱ
parts
ȱ
have
ȱ
been
ȱ
completed.
ȱ
Therefore,
ȱ
you
ȱ
should
ȱ
position
ȱ
the
ȱ
taller
ȱ
side
ȱ
of
ȱ
the
ȱ
model,
ȱ
when
ȱ
possible,
ȱ
on
ȱ
the
ȱ
left.
Recess-Up Rule
This
ȱ
rule
ȱ
considers
ȱ
models
ȱ
containing
ȱ
surface
ȱ
recesses.
¾
Recesses
ȱ
in
ȱ
the
ȱ
surface
ȱ
(like
ȱ
hollows,
ȱ
drill
ȱ
holes,
ȱ
etc.)
ȱ
should,
ȱ
when
ȱ
possible,
ȱ
be
ȱ
positioned
ȱ
face
Ȭ
up.
Fine-Surface Rule
This
ȱ
rule
ȱ
considers
ȱ
models
ȱ
that
ȱ
have
ȱ
one
ȱ
side
ȱ
on
ȱ
which
ȱ
there
ȱ
are
ȱ
fine
ȱ
details
ȱ
(like
ȱ
the
ȱ
keypad
ȱ
side
ȱ
of
ȱ
a
ȱ
telephone).
¾
The
ȱ
side
ȱ
of
ȱ
the
ȱ
model
ȱ
containing
ȱ
fine
ȱ
details
ȱ
should,
ȱ
when
ȱ
possible,
ȱ
be
ȱ
positioned
ȱ
face
Ȭ
up.
ȱ
This
ȱ
results
ȱ
in
ȱ
a
ȱ
smooth
ȱ
finish.
Avoid Support-Material Rule
This
ȱ
rule
ȱ
considers
ȱ
models
ȱ
that
ȱ
have
ȱ
large
ȱ
holes
ȱ
or
ȱ
hollows,
ȱ
open
ȱ
on
ȱ
at
ȱ
least
ȱ
one
ȱ
side
ȱ
(like
ȱ
a
ȱ
pipe
ȱ
or
ȱ
a
ȱ
container).
¾
It
ȱ
may
ȱ
be
ȱ
advantageous
ȱ
to
ȱ
ȱ
a
ȱ
model
ȱ
standing
ȱ
up,
ȱ
so
ȱ
support
ȱ
material
ȱ
does
ȱ
not
ȱ
fill
ȱ
the
ȱ
hollow,
ȱ
even
ȱ
though
ȱ
printing
ȱ
the
ȱ
model
ȱ
lying
ȱ
down
ȱ
would
ȱ
be
ȱ
much
ȱ
faster.
Manipulating Objects on the Build Tray
Positioning
Objects on the
Z-Axis
When
ȱ
you
ȱ
use
ȱ
the
ȱ
automatic
ȱ
positioning
ȱ
option
ȱ
to
ȱ
arrange
ȱ
objects
ȱ
on
ȱ
the
ȱ
build
ȱ
tray
ȱ
(see
ȱ
“Automatic
ȱ
Orientation”
ȱ
on
ȱ
page 25),
ȱ
the
ȱ
objects
ȱ
are
ȱ
positioned
ȱ
directly
ȱ
on
ȱ
the
ȱ
tray.
ȱ
If
ȱ
you
ȱ
do
ȱ
not
ȱ
insert
ȱ
objects
ȱ
with
ȱ
automatic
ȱ
positioning,
ȱ
they
ȱ
often
ȱ
appear
ȱ
either
ȱ
above
ȱ
or
ȱ
below
ȱ
the
ȱ
tray.
To position objects directly on the tray:
1. Select
ȱ
the
ȱ
object.
2. From
ȱ
the
ȱ
Object
ȱ
menu,
ȱ
select
ȱ
Lay On
.
The following rules are based on the fact that support material is not
required on the top of the printed model.
In practice, the Stratasys system prints all models on the build tray on a one-
millimeter bed of support material. The importance of positioning objects
directly on the build tray with Objet Studio is to correctly display the objects
on the screen.
