Handling Printed Models
7–4
DOC08010 Rev. A (DRAFT 1)
Post-Printing Treatment for Models Printed with Objet VeroClear
Models
ȱ
made
ȱ
with
ȱ
Objet
ȱ
VeroClear
ȱ
(RGD810)
ȱ
have
ȱ
a
ȱ
slight
ȱ
yellow
ȱ
tint
ȱ
when
ȱ
removed
ȱ
from
ȱ
the
ȱ
printer.
ȱ
This
ȱ
is
ȱ
especially
ȱ
true
ȱ
for
ȱ
models
ȱ
printed
ȱ
with
ȱ
a
ȱ
glossy
ȱ
finish.
ȱ
The
ȱ
yellow
ȱ
tint
ȱ
fades
ȱ
naturally
ȱ
over
ȱ
time,
ȱ
but
ȱ
you
ȱ
can
ȱ
greatly
ȱ
accelerate
ȱ
this
ȱ
process
ȱ
by
ȱ
using
ȱ
a
ȱ
suitable
ȱ
photobleaching
ȱ
treatment.
As
ȱ
a
ȱ
rule,
ȱ
best
ȱ
clarity
ȱ
is
ȱ
achieved
ȱ
when
ȱ
parts
ȱ
are
ȱ
printed
ȱ
with
ȱ
a
ȱ
matte
ȱ
finish,
ȱ
and
ȱ
treated
ȱ
as
ȱ
explained
ȱ
below.
Photobleaching
ȱ
models
ȱ
involves
ȱ
exposing
ȱ
them
ȱ
to
ȱ
light.
ȱ
To
ȱ
achieve
ȱ
highly
ȱ
controlled
ȱ
and
ȱ
predictable
ȱ
results,
ȱ
a
ȱ
professional
ȱ
illumination
ȱ
chamber
ȱ
is
ȱ
recommended.
ȱ
However,
ȱ
adequate
ȱ
results
ȱ
may
ȱ
be
ȱ
obtained
ȱ
using
ȱ
ordinary
ȱ
desk
ȱ
lamps
ȱ
fitted
ȱ
with
ȱ
suitable
ȱ
fluorescent
ȱ
elements.
Photo-
Bleaching
Instructions
Follow
ȱ
these
ȱ
instructions
ȱ
for
ȱ
photobleaching
ȱ
printed
ȱ
models.
•
The
ȱ
fluorescent
ȱ
lamps
ȱ
should
ȱ
be
ȱ
rated
ȱ
45W,
ȱ
6500K.
•
When
ȱ
using
ȱ
desk
ȱ
lamps,
ȱ
place
ȱ
the
ȱ
models
ȱ
in
ȱ
a
ȱ
container
ȱ
lined
ȱ
with
ȱ
aluminum
ȱ
foil.
ȱ
Use
ȱ
at
ȱ
least
ȱ
two
ȱ
lamps,
ȱ
more
ȱ
when
ȱ
treating
ȱ
models
ȱ
in
ȱ
a
ȱ
large
ȱ
container.
•
Arrange
ȱ
the
ȱ
models
ȱ
with
ȱ
enough
ȱ
space
ȱ
between
ȱ
them
ȱ
to
ȱ
allow
ȱ
light
ȱ
to
ȱ
reach
ȱ
all
ȱ
sides
ȱ
of
ȱ
each
ȱ
model.
•
Verify
ȱ
that
ȱ
the
ȱ
ambient
ȱ
temperature
ȱ
around
ȱ
the
ȱ
models
ȱ
is
ȱ
approximately
ȱ
40 ºC
ȱ
(104 ºF).
ȱ
Higher
ȱ
temperatures
ȱ
may
ȱ
cause
ȱ
model
ȱ
distortion;
ȱ
lower
ȱ
temperatures
ȱ
may
ȱ
not
ȱ
produce
ȱ
satisfactory
ȱ
results.
ȱ
When
ȱ
using
ȱ
desk
ȱ
lamps,
ȱ
you
ȱ
can
ȱ
achieve
ȱ
the
ȱ
required
ȱ
temperature
ȱ
by
ȱ
positioning
ȱ
the
ȱ
lamps
ȱ
approximately
ȱ
10
ȱ
cm
ȱ
(4
ȱ
in.)
ȱ
above
ȱ
the
ȱ
models.
•
Inspect
ȱ
the
ȱ
models
ȱ
after
ȱ
six
ȱ
hours
ȱ
of
ȱ
treatment.
ȱ
For
ȱ
parts
ȱ
with
ȱ
a
ȱ
matte
ȱ
finish,
ȱ
this
ȱ
should
ȱ
be
ȱ
enough.
ȱ
Polish
ȱ
and
ȱ
lacquer
ȱ
the
ȱ
parts.
For
ȱ
parts
ȱ
with
ȱ
a
ȱ
glossy
ȱ
finish,
ȱ
continue
ȱ
the
ȱ
photobleaching
ȱ
treatment
ȱ
for
ȱ
up
ȱ
to
ȱ
18
ȱ
hours
ȱ
more.
In
ȱ
Stratasys
ȱ
laboratories,
ȱ
there
ȱ
was
ȱ
a
ȱ
tint
ȱ
reduction
ȱ
of
ȱ
approximately
ȱ
70%
ȱ
within
ȱ
six
ȱ
hours.
ȱ
After
ȱ
24
ȱ
hours,
ȱ
tint
ȱ
was
ȱ
reduced
ȱ
by
ȱ
approximately
ȱ
90%.
