Printing Materials
Stratasys
ȱ
printers
ȱ
produce
ȱ
models
ȱ
by
ȱ
jetting
ȱ
thin
ȱ
layers
ȱ
of
ȱ
printing
ȱ
materials
ȱ
on
ȱ
the
ȱ
build
ȱ
tray,
ȱ
until
ȱ
the
ȱ
complete
ȱ
model
ȱ
is
ȱ
formed.
ȱ
Two
ȱ
types
ȱ
of
ȱ
material
ȱ
are
ȱ
used
ȱ
in
ȱ
this
ȱ
process:
•
Model
ȱ
material—which
ȱ
makes
ȱ
up
ȱ
the
ȱ
finished
ȱ
model
•
Support
ȱ
material—which
ȱ
fills
ȱ
gaps
ȱ
and
ȱ
spaces
ȱ
in
ȱ
the
ȱ
model
ȱ
during
ȱ
printing,
ȱ
and
ȱ
is
ȱ
removed
ȱ
after
ȱ
printing
Storage
Materials
ȱ
used
ȱ
for
ȱ
printing
ȱ
models
ȱ
with
ȱ
Stratasys
ȱ
printers
ȱ
are
ȱ
made
ȱ
of
ȱ
resins,
ȱ
which
ȱ
are
ȱ
composed
ȱ
of
ȱ
reactive
ȱ
monomers
ȱ
and
ȱ
oligomers.
ȱ
Although
ȱ
printing
ȱ
materials
ȱ
are
ȱ
supplied
ȱ
in
ȱ
sealed,
ȱ
UV
Ȭ
proof
ȱ
cartridges,
ȱ
care
ȱ
must
ȱ
be
ȱ
taken
ȱ
when
ȱ
storing
ȱ
and
ȱ
handling
ȱ
them.
ȱ
Follow
ȱ
these
ȱ
guidelines
ȱ
to
ȱ
protect
ȱ
operators
ȱ
and
ȱ
the
ȱ
environment,
ȱ
and
ȱ
to
ȱ
ensure
ȱ
optimum
ȱ
results.
ȱ
•
To
ȱ
ensure
ȱ
product
ȱ
stability,
ȱ
do
ȱ
not
ȱ
allow
ȱ
these
ȱ
materials
ȱ
to
ȱ
come
ȱ
into
ȱ
contact
ȱ
with
ȱ
metal.
ȱ
Plastics
ȱ
made
ȱ
from
ȱ
monomer
Ȭ
soluble
ȱ
substances
ȱ
(such
ȱ
as
ȱ
polystyrene
ȱ
or
ȱ
polyvinyl
ȱ
chloride)
ȱ
are
ȱ
not
ȱ
suitable
ȱ
for
ȱ
storing
ȱ
PolyJet
ȱ
printing
ȱ
materials.
•
When
ȱ
not
ȱ
in
ȱ
use,
ȱ
keep
ȱ
material
ȱ
cartridges
ȱ
tightly
ȱ
sealed
ȱ
to
ȱ
prevent
ȱ
contamination,
ȱ
the
ȱ
effects
ȱ
of
ȱ
exposure
ȱ
to
ȱ
UV
ȱ
radiation,
ȱ
and
ȱ
accidental
ȱ
spillage.
ȱ
•
Store
ȱ
material
ȱ
cartridges
ȱ
indoors,
ȱ
in
ȱ
a
ȱ
dry
ȱ
area
ȱ
with
ȱ
adequate
ȱ
ventilation,
ȱ
between
ȱ
16–27
ȱ
degrees
ȱ
Celsius
ȱ
(60–81
ȱ
degrees
ȱ
Fahrenheit).
ȱ
If
ȱ
exposed
ȱ
to
ȱ
heat
ȱ
or
ȱ
flames,
ȱ
cartridges
ȱ
might
ȱ
burst
ȱ
or
ȱ
ignite.
•
Signs
ȱ
of
ȱ
premature
ȱ
polymerization
ȱ
in
ȱ
material
ȱ
cartridges
ȱ
include
ȱ
bulging,
ȱ
leaking,
ȱ
the
ȱ
emission
ȱ
of
ȱ
heat,
ȱ
and
ȱ
unusual
ȱ
odor.
ȱ
Exposure
ȱ
to
ȱ
heat
ȱ
can
ȱ
cause
ȱ
resin
ȱ
to
ȱ
gel
ȱ
in
ȱ
the
ȱ
cartridge.
•
Make
ȱ
sure
ȱ
that
ȱ
material
ȱ
cartridges
ȱ
are
ȱ
stored
ȱ
in
ȱ
accordance
ȱ
with
ȱ
all
ȱ
local
ȱ
regulations
ȱ
and
ȱ
other
ȱ
applicable
ȱ
requirements.
Shelf Life
Materials
ȱ
used
ȱ
for
ȱ
producing
ȱ
models
ȱ
have
ȱ
a
ȱ
limited
ȱ
shelf
ȱ
life.
ȱ
The
ȱ
expiry
ȱ
date
ȱ
on
ȱ
the
ȱ
label
ȱ
is
ȱ
valid
ȱ
when
ȱ
properly
ȱ
stored
ȱ
in
ȱ
an
ȱ
undamaged,
ȱ
unopened
ȱ
cartridge.
ȱ
Always
ȱ
rotate
ȱ
your
ȱ
stock,
ȱ
so
ȱ
that
ȱ
the
ȱ
cartridge
ȱ
with
ȱ
the
ȱ
earliest
ȱ
date
ȱ
is
ȱ
used
ȱ
first.
Exposure to
Light
If
ȱ
printing
ȱ
materials
ȱ
are
ȱ
not
ȱ
in
ȱ
their
ȱ
sealed
ȱ
cartridges,
ȱ
make
ȱ
sure
ȱ
to
ȱ
shield
ȱ
them
ȱ
from
ȱ
sunlight
ȱ
and
ȱ
other
ȱ
sources
ȱ
of
ȱ
UV
ȱ
radiation,
ȱ
such
ȱ
as
ȱ
fluorescent
ȱ
and
ȱ
mercury
Ȭ
vapor
ȱ
lights.
ȱ
Exposure
ȱ
to
ȱ
UV
ȱ
radiation
ȱ
causes
ȱ
an
ȱ
increase
ȱ
in
ȱ
viscosity
ȱ
and,
ȱ
eventually,
ȱ
solidification.
