Handling Printed Models
7–2
DOC08010 Rev. A (DRAFT 1)
Removing Models After Printing
After
ȱ
printing
ȱ
models,
ȱ
you
ȱ
should
ȱ
allow
ȱ
them
ȱ
to
ȱ
cool
ȱ
as
ȱ
much
ȱ
as
ȱ
possible
ȱ
before
ȱ
handling
ȱ
them.
ȱ
If
ȱ
additional
ȱ
models
ȱ
do
ȱ
not
ȱ
have
ȱ
to
ȱ
be
ȱ
produced
ȱ
on
ȱ
the
ȱ
printer,
ȱ
it
ȱ
is
ȱ
best
ȱ
to
ȱ
let
ȱ
the
ȱ
printed
ȱ
models
ȱ
cool
ȱ
in
ȱ
the
ȱ
printer,
ȱ
with
ȱ
the
ȱ
cover
ȱ
closed,
ȱ
as
ȱ
long
ȱ
as
ȱ
possible.
ȱ
If the printer must be used to produce additional models as soon as
possible:
1. Let
ȱ
the
ȱ
printed
ȱ
models
ȱ
cool
ȱ
on
ȱ
the
ȱ
build
ȱ
tray
ȱ
for
ȱ
at
ȱ
least
ȱ
10
ȱ
minutes.
ȱ
2. Very
ȱ
carefully,
ȱ
remove
ȱ
the
ȱ
models
ȱ
from
ȱ
the
ȱ
tray
ȱ
with
ȱ
a
ȱ
scraper
ȱ
or
ȱ
spatula
ȱ
(supplied
ȱ
in
ȱ
the
ȱ
tool
ȱ
kit),
ȱ
taking
ȱ
care
ȱ
not
ȱ
to
ȱ
pry
ȱ
or
ȱ
bend
ȱ
the
ȱ
model.
3. Place
ȱ
the
ȱ
models
ȱ
on
ȱ
a
ȱ
flat
ȱ
surface,
ȱ
and
ȱ
cover
ȱ
them
ȱ
with
ȱ
a
ȱ
cardboard
ȱ
box
ȱ
or
ȱ
paper
ȱ
hood.
This
ȱ
allows
ȱ
the
ȱ
models
ȱ
to
ȱ
cool
ȱ
slowly
ȱ
and
ȱ
evenly.
4. Let
ȱ
the
ȱ
models
ȱ
cool
ȱ
for
ȱ
several
ȱ
hours.
Removing the Support Material
After
ȱ
printed
ȱ
models
ȱ
have
ȱ
cooled,
ȱ
the
ȱ
support
ȱ
material
ȱ
must
ȱ
be
ȱ
removed.
ȱ
This
ȱ
can
ȱ
be
ȱ
done
ȱ
by
ȱ
different
ȱ
methods,
ȱ
depending
ȱ
on
ȱ
the
ȱ
size
ȱ
of
ȱ
the
ȱ
model,
ȱ
how
ȱ
delicate
ȱ
it
ȱ
is,
ȱ
the
ȱ
amount
ȱ
and
ȱ
location
ȱ
of
ȱ
the
ȱ
support
ȱ
material,
ȱ
and
ȱ
other
ȱ
factors.
ȱ
Use
ȱ
the
ȱ
following
ȱ
methods
ȱ
as
ȱ
a
ȱ
guide,
ȱ
and
ȱ
adapt
ȱ
them
ȱ
(or
ȱ
a
ȱ
combination
ȱ
of
ȱ
them)
ȱ
for
ȱ
finishing
ȱ
the
ȱ
models
ȱ
you
ȱ
are
ȱ
handling.
Removing Excess
Support Material by
Hand
While
ȱ
wearing
ȱ
protective
ȱ
gloves,
ȱ
break
ȱ
away
ȱ
excess
ȱ
support
ȱ
material
ȱ
on
ȱ
the
ȱ
outside
ȱ
of
ȱ
the
ȱ
model.
ȱ
For
ȱ
delicate
ȱ
models,
ȱ
use
ȱ
a
ȱ
toothpick,
ȱ
pin
ȱ
or
ȱ
small
ȱ
brush
ȱ
after
ȱ
dipping
ȱ
the
ȱ
model
ȱ
in
ȱ
water.
Removing Support
Material with Water
Pressure
For
ȱ
most
ȱ
models,
ȱ
the
ȱ
most
ȱ
efficient
ȱ
way
ȱ
to
ȱ
remove
ȱ
support
ȱ
material
ȱ
is
ȱ
by
ȱ
using
ȱ
a
ȱ
high
Ȭ
pressure
ȱ
water
ȱ
jet.
ȱ
One
ȱ
suitable
ȱ
system
ȱ
is
ȱ
the
ȱ
Balco
ȱ
WaterJet
ȱ
cleaning
ȱ
unit.
ȱ
This
ȱ
device
ȱ
is
ȱ
marketed
ȱ
by
ȱ
Stratasys.
WARNING:
Wear protective gloves when handling printed models
before they are washed.
