Safety information, UL-compliant use

Manual SD6
2.8
UL-compliant use
Additional information for use under UL conditions (UL – Underwriters
Laboratories).
Surrounding temperature and pollution degree
The maximum surrounding temperature for UL-compliant operation is 45 °C.
Observe the specifications in the general data for use in an environment with a
pollution degree, see section 4.4.
Mains configuration
All device types that are supplied with 480 V are designed exclusively for
operation on Wye source with 480/277 V.
Power supply and motor overload protection
Observe the specifications in the electrical data of the drive controller for this,
Mains fuse
Observe the specifications for the UL-compliant mains fuse in section 4.6.1.
Applies to use in Canada in accordance with CSA-C22.2 No. 14-13
Depending on the device type, additional overvoltage protection must be
positioned mains-side from the device that meets the following conditions.
•
Single-phase – SD6A02:
- Overvoltage category 3
- Phase ground = 240 V (permissible rating surge voltage = 4 kV peak)
- phase-phase (or N) = 240 V (permissible rating surge voltage = 4 kV
peak)
•
Three-phase – from SD6A04:
- Overvoltage category 3
- Phase ground = 277 V (permissible peak rating surge voltage = 4 kV
peak)
- phase-phase (or N) = 480 V (permissible rating surge voltage = 6 kV
peak)
Motor protection
All models of STOBER 6th generation drive controllers have a certified i²t
model, a calculation model for thermal monitoring of the motor. This fulfils the
requirements for semiconductor motor overload protection in accordance with
the change to UL 508C dated May 2013. To activate the protective function and
set it up, make the following parameter settings – which differ from the default
values: U10 =
2:Warning
and U11 = 1.00 s. This module can be used as an
alternative or in addition to motor protection with temperature monitoring as
described in section 7.3.8.
Motor temperature sensor
All models of STOBER 6th generation drive controllers have connections for
PTC thermistors (NAT 145 °C) or KTY temperature sensors (KT84-130).
Observe the terminal description X2 for proper connection, see section 7.3.8.
Braking resistor
If the drive controllers will be fitted with an externally mounted braking resistor,
separate overtemperature protection must be made available.
24 V power supply
Low voltage circuits must be supplied by an isolated source whose maximum
output voltage does not exceed 28.8 V. Note also the technical specifications
for the X11 connector in this regard, see section7.3.3.
Lines
Use only copper conductors for an surrounding temperature of 60/75 °C.
Information
STOBER recommends using PTC thermistors as thermal motor
protection.
