18 Doors

The doors should be made to fit, with the wings in place for best results and fit. Care
with cutting and positioning the doors will reduce the number of draughts!

Check and double check the fit before cutting the parts, especially the Lexan. The
exact measurements depend upon a number of factors, Use the patterns as a guide
only.

Before making the doors, decide which wing root enclose system you will be using

–

and if using the glassfibre one, fit this first .

18.1 Keeping out the drafts.

Supplied in the kit are two big pieces of glassfibre angle designed to be used as wing
root closures and gaps seals extending to the wing undersurface.

However they weight around a total 1kg installed (500g each). In the UK
demonstrator to save weight we did not use these. We extended the angle used on
the door tops to meet the wing undersurface. This can be done by using some spare
lexan or using a strip of glassfibre cut from the big angles rivetted in place on the
aluminium angle.

We then made a wingroot enclosure from some light fabric, velcroed in place to the
cabin roof tube 34 and the edge of the aluminium angle, as an optional fit and not
necessary to count in the basic aircraft weight. This piece is purely cosmetic and the
drafts are sealed by the strip on the angle. This is included in UK kits.

So you decide which way to do it on your aircraft!
