Test Configuration
Temperature Compensation
The analyzer will correct the IR/megohm tests to the value entered in the Correct To field. By default (when creating a
new Test Configuration), this value is 104° F (40° Celsius).
NOTE: Depending on the location (language setting in Android setup) in which the tester is used, the
Temperature Compensation fields will be displayed in the scale (Fahrenheit or Celsius) commonly used
in the region.
NOTICE: Because the information collected during testing is commonly used for identifying trends, it is
crucial to ensure that values specified in testing are used consistently.
IR/PI Test Sub-section
The DC insulation resistance (IR) test is performed at or near the asset’s operating voltage. The IR test quantifies
the resistance for a defined period (usually 60 seconds). The insulation’s ability to polarize can also be assessed by
extending the IR for an additional period using the dielectric absorption (DA) or polarization index (PI) evaluations.
If enabled, the (IR) test runs first, followed immediately by a DA and/or PI ratio comparison.
The first minute of that overall test is the IR; the remaining time is used to evaluate change. The DA and PI are ratio
evaluations of that change over time.
The timer for these tests starts when the test voltage is reached. Assuming defaults parameters, after 60 seconds from
test start, the IR test completes and the first evaluation marker is set. If a PI test is selected, testing runs for nine more
minutes (10 total) then the last evaluation marker is set.
The DA is essentially the same as PI, but shorter in duration (3 minutes vs. 10 for PI—using default durations).

IR Ramp Rate
A slider used to set the rate at which voltage will ramp for IR/PI tests. The scale is
1–10 from left to right, with 1 being the slowest rate.
IR Voltage Level [V]
The IR Voltage Level is typically at or near the normal operating voltage of the
Asset. Refer to “Appendix D — Recommended Test Voltages” to determine the
proper voltage level for your Asset.
IR Begin t1 [s]
The start of the IR test, in seconds. This value should always be zero (0).
IR End t2 [s]
The end of the IR test. Typical duration is 60 seconds.
DA Begin t1 [s]
The start of the DA test. This value should be between 0 and 60. In any case,
ensure that it completes before the PI test completes.
DA End t2 [s]
The end of the DA test. Typical duration is 180 seconds.
PI Begin t1 [s]
The start of the PI test. Test starts when you get the test voltage; that is zero
point. After 60 seconds has elapsed from test start, that is the first PI marker.
Then it runs for nine more minutes (10 total) to get to the last marker.
PI End t2 [s]
Typical duration is 600 seconds.
Revert to DA AT >= [MΩ]
If IR/DA/PI is selected and the DA test yields a measurement greater than or equal
to the defined value, the low-voltage test stops at the completion of the DA.
One of each test—IR DA PI (STEPS x n) and HIPOT—can be saved into a single test record.
