Installations
How installations are defined identifies the structure (and naming conventions) used by an organization. For example,
a contracting maintenance company often needs multiple attributes to identify the specific installation of an asset:
Customer Name, City and State, Plant or Address, Building, Section, and Line are examples of location attributes
commonly assigned to installations. Depending on the organization performing the services, some or all of these
attributes could be needed.
The example above shows that the selected Asset (MTR4002019B789) is assigned to the installation “Water Inlet Pump
#4,” which is the machine driven by the assigned asset. Attributes in the example include Plant, Building, and Section.
These attributes appear in the Search and Browse lists used to find and select an installation within the software.
Focusing on location-type attributes for installations is common, but other attribute types can provide information that
can be useful to operators or others within your organization. For example, some information could even be used for
root cause analysis.

NOTE: When an asset is assigned to an installation, the installation’s attributes are included in the asset’s
test records. Attributes are used in PowerDB Dashboard for filtering and potential analysis applications.
Re-assigning Assets
An asset can be assigned to only one installation, and the software keeps track of these assignments.
If you try to assign an asset to an installation, and that asset is already assigned somewhere else, the software displays
a message alerting you that the asset is assigned to another Installation. The software will also ask if you want to move
the asset to the new installation. If you answer “yes,” the asset will be moved to the new installation.
If the installation is in a route, the software also automatically removes the asset from the original installation and
assigns it to the new installation. Unless another asset is assigned to the original installation, it will appear within the
route without an asset assigned.
Best practice is to replace the asset removed with a new asset then update the installation as needed.
NOTE: Most installations will have just one asset assigned. However, installations such as a store room,
service center, or warehouse can have multiple assets assigned.
