10. When you return to the Surge Test screen, a message appears to alert you that Zero Start Override has been enabled
for the active test configuration when that box is checked.
WARNING: When Zero Start Override is enabled, the full target voltage will be applied to the
test lead when the PTT button is pressed. Follow all safety precautions to prevent severe
injury from electrical shock.

11. Press OK to close the dialog.
12. A message appears within the surge display area instructing you to create or load a reference waveform.
13. Begin the testing process using the equivalent (or a close approximation) of a known-good asset. For example, you
can use a coil in a batch that successfully passes testing, or the first bar pair on a commutator that yields acceptable
results.
14. Run the surge test on your asset to obtain a good waveform for Lead 1. When you are satisfied with the waveform,
press the SAVE TEST REFERENCE icon in the toolbar then enter a name for the reference. When this reference is
saved, it can be used for the duration of the test session without saving it as a “permanent” part of the active test
configuration.
15. If you will use additional references (depending on the asset type), repeat the last step as needed. For example, for
coil testing that will apply a surge pulse to each test lead (L1 and L2), switch the LEAD icon in the toolbar to L2 and
acquire a good waveform then save the reference for L2. Otherwise, testing can continue using just one reference.
16. Continue with testing as normal then save your results when completed.
The active test configuration can then be re-used for other similar applications, and you will set the test reference for
each session following this same process.
