Manual Surge Test

NOTE: The examples in this section follow the best practice of selecting an asset with an active test
configuration. However, selecting as asset is not required. The process and functionality are alike in most
aspects. For more information on using Manual Mode screens without selecting an asset, refer to “” on
page 76.

The Manual Surge Test screen provides a full set of features so you can conduct Surge tests on one or more phases of
your asset.

CAUTION: Do not coil excess test leads on top of the ADX during testing. Surging current in coiled test
leads generates high magnetic field that could interfere with proper ADX operation. In some cases, the
interference could even damage the unit.

Icons at top right provide controls for saving a test reference, indicating equipment stop, editing the selected test
configuration, saving the test data, accessing help, and exiting the Surge Test screen.

Before Running a Surge Test

1. Select an asset to test. When the software loads the asset information, it will use the active test configuration to set

test parameters such as the target voltage (displayed top right in the waveform display area).

2. Use the scale controls above the waveform display graph to select specific scales for each axis.

By default, the

Voltage

Scale

(Y axis) is set to Auto Scale. As you ramp up the voltage, the display automatically

changes scale to improve waveform view. While the default is auto-scale, you can select a specific scale value if you
prefer.

The

Time Scale

(X axis) is also set to Auto Scale by default; the software determines the common optimal waveform

display and automatically scales the X-axis accordingly. You can manually select specific scales to adjust the amount of
the waveform displayed to meet your needs and preferences.
