5 — Defining Assets, Test Configurations, Installations, and Routes
Focus is on the Asset
The ADX is most commonly used to test AC and DC motors; but it can also be used to test generators, transformers,
coils, and other devices. For that reason, the software refers to the devices tested as
Assets
.
NOTE: You can use the ADX to test a device without selecting an Asset, but features are limited:
You can run only RLC, DC, and Surge tests in Manual mode— no references or PD testing in Surge.
Any saved data is not automatically associated with the Asset being testing.
The software uses a default Test Configuration that cannot be viewed or edited.
For most applications, selecting an asset provides many advantages, including:
Saving all test data to the selected asset’s records for analysis and reporting.
Building testing history and trending data for the specific asset.
Assigning one or more test configurations that precisely define how you want to test the asset.
Ability to use test references and perform PD testing in Surge.
Assigning a Sequence to facilitate an automated progression through all or selected ADX tests.
Assigning the asset to a installation.
Assigning the Asset To One Or More Routes.
More information on these steps are provided in the next sections.
