BRAKING

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The braking system consists of a Type 28

servo unit attached t o a tandem

master c

linder with a bore of 19.05 mm (0.75 in) operating Type

GA2

with

mm (9.7 in) diameter discs at the front, arid Type

sliding calipers with

275 mm (10.82 in) diameter discs at the rear; the rear brakes are mounted

The

lever

i s

coupled to the rear brake calipers via two cables, a

compensator and an actuator rod.

A l l the pedals are mounted i n the same pedal box, the bmke

clutch pedals being

on a common spindle, and the throttle pedal spindle being located on a separate

spindle.

FRONT

BRAKE PADS

To Renew

Always

brake pads i n wheel sets.

After raising the front of the vehicle, remove the front wheels.

WARNING: When both front wheels are raised, do

NOT

move the road wheels

quickly from lock to lock, as this

cause

i c pressure t o build

up within the steering gear,

may cause the rubber bellows to b u n t

or blow off.

Remove any accumulated road f i l t h from the area of the brake pads.

Pull out the pad retaining piri clips (A), withdraw the retaining pins

(B)

remove the brake pads

(C)

with the

(Fig

N o t e the position of the

dust shield fitted over the brake pads.

To enable the new pads to be fitted, push the pistons i n the calipers back

into the bores.

This

action w i l l cause hydraulic fluid to be returned to the

master cylinder, which

i f

i t has recently been topped-up, may overflow.

To avoid this, examine the f l u i d level and

i f

necessary, remove a quantity

of fluid

BEFORE

pushing the pistons back into ttie bores. D O

NOT USE

REMOVED FLUID FORTOPPING-UP PURPOSES.

F i t the new brake pads with

taking care that both are fitted

correctly. The shims are marked w i t h an arrow which MUST point i n the

directiori o f forward rotation o f

wheel. Replace the dust shield, r e f i t

the retaining pins

the locking clips.
