BIOMED MODE TESTS
Table 5-7
provides a list of system tests available in the Biomed Mode . Each test displays
prompting information on the LCD screen to serve as a guide through the test.
Note: The battery and patient pendant must be connected to the infusion system
to complete the Biomed mode tests.
Note: Verify the patient pendant has a label that indicates it is appropriate for
use with the LifeCare PCA pump.
No Check Printer alarm will sound if problems are encountered while printing
in the Biomed Mode.
To enter the Biomed Mode, proceed as follows:
1. Confirm the AC power indicator on the front panel is lit.
2. Unlock and open the security door.
3. Press and hold
[ENTER]
and
[ON/OFF]
simultaneously.
4. Verify the
BIOMED MODE
screen displays.
5. Verify the infusion system is not connected to a patient and press
[CONTINUE]
.
6. After the power up RAM test is completed, the infuser displays the Biomed Mode
Main Menu screen. Press the
[MAINTENANCE]
softkey.
7. Press the
[SYSTEM TESTS]
softkey.
8. Press the corresponding softkey to select the test to be performed (see
System Tests
in
Table 5-7
). Use the
[NEXT]
and
[PREVIOUS]
softkeys to navigate through
the Biomed mode tests and follow the on-screen instructions.
9. When all tests are completed, press
[EXIT]
to return to the
BIOMED MODE
screen,
then press
[ON/OFF]
to power off the infuser.

Test Description
RAM Test is performed to determine the integrity of the address lines used to select
specific memory locations for data access
Microcomputer RAM memory is tested
FLASH Checksum is calculated and compared to a pre-stored and pre-calculated value
to assure the operating program residing in Flash memory is intact
CPU Test routine is performed and the test results are verified to assure
the microcomputer is executing instructions properly
CLOCK Real-time clock is tested to verify its accuracy
LCD Non-displaying test pattern is written to the LCD RAM and compared with a stored
pattern to assure that the LCD screen can accurately display data
BACKLIGHT Display backlight is turned off and on
LED Pattern of 1s through 9s is displayed by the LEDs to verify operation
INDICATOR Test verifies battery and AC symbols are turned on and off when the power cord
is connected and disconnected
