MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE
TESTS
A complete maintenance program promotes infusion system longevity and trouble-free
operation. Such a program should include cleaning, Preventive Maintenance,
and the Performance Verification Test (PVT).
Preventive Maintenance is the ICU Medical-required procedures, including testing and
replacement procedures, that assure continued performance of the infuser in a safe
manner and assure the intended life and durability of the infuser.
The Performance Verification Test (PVT) is designed to assure the infusion system is
operating properly, and can also be used for diagnostic purposes during troubleshooting.
The PVT should be used for performance verification before an infuser is placed back in
service after repair.

CLEANING AND DISINFECTION
Clean and disinfect the LifeCare PCA infuser between each patient use. In addition, the
infuser should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected once a month or according to facility
protocol. The following sections describe how to clean and disinfect the LifeCare PCA
infuser. These instructions should also be used to prepare the infuser for initial use on a
patient, storage, repair, or preventive maintenance.
Cleaning and disinfecting the infuser prevents build-up of contaminants from normal use
and indirect patient contact. For example, organic soil can be transferred when clinicians
who set up and program the infuser touch other surfaces and other patients. Thorough
cleaning and effective disinfection are important steps in maintaining the infuser and
preventing the spread of disease.
WARNING: DISCONNECT THE INFUSER FROM AC POWER PRIOR TO OPENING THE
DEVICE, CHANGING THE BATTERY, OR CLEANING THE DEVICE. FAILURE TO
COMPLY WITH THIS WARNING COULD RESULT IN ELECTRICAL SHOCK.
CAUTION: For proper functioning of the barcode reader, keep the barcode
reader window clean. For cleaning, use recommended CleanTex
™
CT 811
OpticPad
™
Optic Surface Cleaner or a soft, lint-free cloth moistened
with a streak-free optical glass cleaner. To avoid fluid ingress, do not spray
fluids or cleaning solutions on the barcode reader window and press lightly
on the barcode reader window while cleaning.
CAUTION: To avoid mechanical or electronic damage, do not immerse
the infuser in fluids or cleaning solutions. Do not spray cleaning solutions
toward any openings in the device, or directly on the device.
