T1 Diagnostic Tests
T1 diagnostics in the SCIP can assist equipment installers in isolating T1 network problems.
Installers initiate diagnostic tests using CLI commands via a terminal connection to the
SCIP front panel Craft port or through a Telnet connection. A 16-minute guardband timer ensures
that user-initiated T1 selftest or loopback will be cancelled even on tests initiated to a remote unit
via Telnet. Any network diagnostic test in progress can be cancelled including network-initiated
FDL loop up commands. A confirmation prompt will display before the cancellation is executed.
All diagnostic starts, stops, cancels and timeout events are recorded in the System Message Log.
Network Line Loopback
This diagnostic loops back the Tl Rx lines to the T1 Tx lines. This is not a payload loopback and
framing bits and BPVs are not reconstructed. Whatever is received is what is transmitted back,
using the timing mode currently set.
After user verification, the diagnostic runs for 900 seconds (15 minutes) or until the user presses the
Ctrl+C
keys. End-to-End T1 user data is interrupted for the duration of the test. The console port
will display the number of seconds remaining.
Payload Loopback
This diagnostic loops back the T1 Rx lines to the T1 Tx lines. This is a payload loopback and
framing bits and BPVs are reconstructed. Whatever user data is received is what is transmitted back
using the timing mode currently set, i.e., user data is looped backed untouched. End-to-end user T1
data is interrupted for the duration of the test.
