Issue 13
Installation and Operation Manual
6. Configure and enable the serial0 interface for LAN-extension mode by typing:
configure interfaces link-encap serial0 lanx
configure interfaces enable serial0
7. Enable span-tree by typing:
configure span-tree
[enable]
Note
Once spanning tree is enabled, additional configurable options are available for that function. Do not change
these additional spanning tree options from the default settings unless you have a comprehensive
understanding of the spanning tree protocol (Ref. IEEE 802.1D). To learn more about available options for
spanning tree, type
configure span-tree ?
.
8. If you are configuring the remote SCIP from a local unit, skip to
If you are configuring the unit directly via its craft port, configure and enable ethernet0 for
LAN-X management typing the following command:
configure interfaces ip-address ethernet0
[###.###.###.###] [###.###.###.###]
For example:
configure interfaces ip-address ethernet0 172.16.5.10 255.255.0.0
Then type:
configure interfaces ip-address default-route serial0
[default router IP]
Note
The serial0 may also be assigned an IP address for LAN-X management.
9. Type
show lanx-router
to display the remote unit IP information. Modify, if needed.

below.
PART 4: Configure Remote SCIP for T1
When modifying the T1 parameters in SCIPs already deployed in a network, be sure to change the
far end unit first, then configure the near end unit. Communications will be interrupted and then will
restart when the near end unit matches the new T1 values at the far end. Note that the terms “near
end unit” and “far end unit” refer to their relative location to the user.
Note
IMPORTANT! For deployed SCIPs, always change the T1 configuration of deployed SCIPs in the proper
order (i.e., far end unit before near end unit). Otherwise you will lose access to the far end device.
1. Configure the T1 values for your network.
configure t1 clock-source
[line]
configure t1 fdl
[ANSI-T1.403]
configure t1 framing
[ESF]
configure t1 lbo ds1
[0.0dB]
configure t1 linecode
[B8ZS]
configure t1 timeslots
[1-24 64]
Note
When configuring the Line Buildout for DSX1, SCIP uses five ranges of lengths: 0 - 133 ft, 133-266 ft,
266-399 ft, 399 - 533 ft, 533-655 ft. Be aware that if you select a value at the beginning of a range, such as
133 ft, SCIP will use the lower range that includes that value.
