Terminal Server Management
SCIP provides four methods of accessing an attached terminal server device via craft or Telnet/SSH:
•
SCIP CLI
for craft or Telnet/SSH access to a specific enabled port
using the
connect
command.
•
“Menu Cut-thru” accesses all enabled ports via Telnet/SSH using the SCIP’s
Telnet/SSH menu. This method also accesses the SCIP command line interface.
•
“Port Cut-thru” accesses a specific enabled port using that device’s
Telnet/SSH port number. For Telnet cut-thru, TCP port 2001 thru 2008 corresponds to
term1 through term8, respectively. For SSH, ports 3001 thru 3008 are used.
•
“IP Cut-thru” accesses a specific enabled port using the device’s configured IP address.
Setting Up SCIP
1. For Telnet/SSH management, check that Telnet or SSH is enabled in the SCIP as described in
this chapter under the paragraph,
.
2. Make a craft connection to the SCIP, or start a Telnet session at the DOS prompt by typing:
telnet
[SCIP IP address]
3. Login to the SCIP with a valid username and password. If necessary, override any other Telnet
CLI session in progress as instructed by the screen prompt.
4. Enable supervisor privileges by typing:
enable
[supervisor-level password]
5. Check that a username and password has been defined in the SCIP for each remote user.
6. Enter a description for any configured Terminal Server ports 1 through 8 by typing:
configure term-serv description
term
[#]
[your_description]
For example:
configure term-serv description
term1 dslam
7. Enable each configured Terminal Server ports by typing:
configure term-serv enable
term
[#]
For example:
configure term-serv enable
term1
8.
For Telnet/SSH Menu access only, configure the SCIP to allow the Telnet/SSH menu by typing:
configure ports tel-menu enable
or
configure ports ssh-menu enable
9. For IP cut-thu access only, configure an IP address for each Terminal Server port by typing:
configure term-serv ip-address term
[#]
[###.###.###.###]
For example:
configure term-serv ip-address term1 172.16.45.160
Note
Only configure an IP address for a port when users will perform IP Cut-thru access to an attached term-serv
device. Otherwise, the SCIP’s own IP address will be used for Telnet/SSH Menu or Port cut-thru access.
10. Check the configuration by typing:
show services
11. Exit the Telnet session. You can now start a Telnet/SSH or craft amanagement session as
described in the procedures below.
