Read all of Section B and this section before attempting any procedure. Pay particular attention to all Notes, Cautions and Warnings

TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT

To prevent the possibili-
ty of personal injury, dis-
connect the negative (-)

battery cable before starting transmission removal

In the following text, there are references to
removing/installing bolts, etc. Additional hard-

ware (nuts, washers, etc.) that is removed must always be
installed in its original position unless otherwise specified. Non
specified torque figures are as shown in the table contained in
Section A.

Note the location of wires, wire ties and clamps before removal
and always install them in their original location. Use of mask-
ing tape to label wires is recommended.

If the transmission is to be repaired, and not replaced, wash
transmission and chassis to remove dirt build-up.

Before starting, refer SAFETY section. Park the vehicle
on a level surface, engage park brake. Disconnect nega-
tive (-) cable from the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Release the handle and raise the truck bed. Remove the
seat bottom (Ref Seat Bottom Replacement section in
BODY AND TRUCK BED). Remove seat back assembly
and seat crossmember (Ref Seat Back Replacement
section in BODY AND TRUCK BED). Remove the direc-
tion and drive selector cables (Ref Direction And Drive
Selector Cable Adjustment section in DIRECTION AND
DRIVE SELECTOR). Remove the accelerator and gover-
nor cables (Ref Accelerator, Governor and Choke Cable
Removal section on page H-8). Remove CVT cover,
drive clutch and driven clutch (Ref CONTINUOUSLY
VARIABLE TRANSMISSION). Remove the CVT back
cover (Ref CVT BACK COVER REPLACEMENT section
