4.2
Theory of Operation
The sample introduction system generates an aerosol, in a carrier gas, from a liquid
sample and directs it into the center of the toroidal plasma. As the sample passes
through the plasma, it rapidly undergoes the following transformation:

Desolvation stage (drying of the sample)
2.
Molecular decomposition
3.
Formation of ions

Nebulizer
A pneumatic nebulizer and a stream of argon gas generate the sample aerosol. The
micro-mist glass concentric is the standard type of pneumatic nebulizer used with the
instrument.
