Safety Information and Operational Tips
Due to the high operating voltages of the detector and ion optics, ensure that the
spacing between wires exceeds 5mm to prevent arcing.
Beware that the detector EHT operates at 5kV.
Never connect or disconnect either of the HV cables between the detector HV power
supply module and the dilutor PCB whilst the detector is on.
WARNING
Never override or disable the instrument interlocks. Failure to observe this warning
could expose the operator to high Voltage resulting in death or serious injury.
Regular cleaning of the mass spectrometer system is required to maintain optimal
performance. The frequency of cleaning depends on the sample matrix being
analyzed. For example, samples containing high concentrations of organics will
contaminate the system quicker than clean water samples. Cleaning of the ion optics
system is typically required every six months with the scheduled preventative
maintenance visits.

Extraction lens #1
Moderate
Sharp
-1000 to 0
In PPQ mode the effect is
moderate so that a 50V
change will have little affect
Extraction lens #2
Moderate
Moderate/Sharp
-1000 to 0
In PPB mode extraction lens
#2 has a sharper effect on the
sensitivity than when in PPQ
mode.
Typically, the extraction lens
#2 voltage setting is less
negative than the #1 setting
and #3 is less negative than
#2.
