Quadrupole Controller
This chapter describes the operation and maintenance of the quadrupole-controller
module.
NOTICE
There are no field serviceable components within the quadrupole controller. It is
fitted with tamper-proof screws and should not be opened outside the Analytik Jena
factory. This assembly must be replaced at module level.
9.1.1
System Description
The quadrupole controller is designed and manufactured by Analytik Jena. It is a
precision-power supply, responsible for driving the mass analyzer assembly with two
balanced RF and DC potentials. It controls the ratio of RF to DC signal and the
magnitude of these signals in response to commands from the system control PCB.
These include a 16-bit 0 to +10 V for pole DC control, an 8-bit +10 V to -10 V for pole-
bias control, and a 16-bit 0 to +10 V for pole RF control.
Internally, the unit exists as three separate compartments, the power supply, RF
generation, and the control electronics; each shielded from the other to minimize radio
interference.
