7.3.7 Maintaining Quality ECG Signal
Regardless of patient age, electrodes should be
replaced at least every 24 hours to maintain quality
signals during long-term monitoring. Over the
course of 24 hours, the electrode gel will start to dry
out and the adhesive will age. After a long period of
time, the patient’s sensitive skin also may be irri-
tated by the gel or adhesive causing discomfort.
Stabilize the electrode and leadwire with a leadwire
stress loop near the electrode. Tape the stress loop
to the patient. A secured stress loop prevents lead-
wire rotation about the electrode snap, leadwire
tugging at the electrode, and ECG artifact.
WARNING
•
In order to minimize the possibility of interference, place electrodes,
leadwires and TD60 as far away from the pacemaker as possible.
•
False low heart rate indicators or false asystole calls may result with cer-
tain pacemakers because of pacemaker artifact such as electrical over-
shoot of the pacemaker overlapping the true QRS complexes.
•
The auto pacer recognition function is not applicable to pediatric
patients.
NOTE
•
When Paced is set to Yes, the system does not detect PVC-related
arrhythmia (including PVCs) resulting from pacemaker but still analyzes
the normal QRS complex.
