Naming Samples and Assigning Subject IDs
Each Subject ID entered will be appended with its location in the plate. For instance, a
sample named John at position A3 in the plate, will be named John.A3.
The sample name field is automatically populated if a subject ID is entered before a
sample name. It can be changed at any time.
To name a single sample:
1. Select the cell where the sample resides in the plate.
2. Enter the name of the sample in the
Sample Name
text box and press the
Enter
key.
3. Enter the Subject ID in the
Subject ID
text box and press
Enter
.
To name contiguous samples:
1. Select the cells where the samples reside in the plate by clicking and dragging the
mouse cursor.
2. Enter the name of the samples in the
Sample Name
text box and press the
Enter
key.
3. Enter the Subject ID in the
Subject ID
text box and press
Enter
.
To name all wells in the plate:
1. Click the
Select All
icon.
2. Enter the name of the samples in the
Sample Name
text box and press the
Enter
key.
3. Enter the Subject ID in the
Subject ID
text box and press
Enter
.
To name multiple non-contiguous samples that are not within the same sample set:
1. Select the first cell.
2. Hold down the Control key while selecting the additional samples.
3. Enter the name of the samples in the
Sample Name
text box and press the
Enter
key.
4. Enter the Subject ID in the
Subject ID
text box and press
Enter
.
An edited cell, within the plate editor, will turn green. The Plate Status indicator will
also display “Plate Edited.” This indicates that the plate must be saved. Save the plate
to retain the changes. A
Save Changes dialog will remind you of this if you attempt to
close the plate before saving it.
By placing the mouse pointer over a named cell, a “tool tip” will appear showing both
the sample name and subject ID.
