The wire from the panel to the external earth point should be at least 4mm

cable and be
securely connected at both ends to ensure a good mechanical and electrical connection. The
use of crimped lugs are preferred.
Remote equipment earth
In the case of any loop device which makes use of separate external power i.e. it is not
powered from the ZP loop, then the earth connections must follow the guidelines below:
•
The ZP loop shield must be connected to panel earth at the panel.
•
AC supply earth and panel earth to be connected if not the same.
•
If the loop device is powered from an external power supply at the panel, the external
power supply negative must be connected to panel earth. For a frequent surge
environment, the loop device chassis must be connected to the main building earth.
This may require a separate earth wire to be run to the panel.
