Check eyepieces / binocular tube / objective lens

The surgical microscope and the tube are in a position convenient
for you (see page 85).

The interocular distance (pupillary distance) has been set
(see page 87).

The eyecups have been adjusted to ensure that you can see the full
field of view (see page 87).

The correct prescription has been set on the diopter scale (see
page 87).

The image quality is correct throughout the entire magnification
range.

The objective lens and eyepieces are clean.

Check accessories

The additional equipment (illumination system, video system, etc.)
has been checked for proper function according to the respective
instructions for use.

Check correct balancing

When fully balanced, the surgical microscope should remain stationary
in all positions within the work area and neither move upward nor
downward (see page 77).
•
Check downward travel limit
The minimum working distance (height) from the surgical field has been
adjusted (see page 84).
CAUTION Variable light intensity due to a faulty light source!
A faulty light source with variable light intensity can damage the patient’s
retina.
•
Check the light source and the brightness adjustment before each use
of the device.
NOTICE Light source failure caused by ageing of the lamp!
As the light source ages, the actual illumination intensity decreases.
The light source intensity may vary or fail.
•
Check each light source before use to make sure it is functioning
properly.
•
Keep a backup lamp or an OR illuminator ready.
