Headlight Housing Removal/Installation

1. Remove the mounting screw (
Figure 53
) on ei-
ther side of the headlight housing and lower the lens
assembly from the housing.
2. Disconnect the headlight connector (A,
Figure
54
) from the bulb and remove the lens assembly.
3. Disconnect the front turn signal bullet connec-
tors (B,
Figure 54
) from their harness mates.
4. Feed the wiring harness lead and the turn signal
leads through the opening in the headlight housing.
5A. On 1999-2000 XVS1100 models, remove the
two headlight housing bolts and remove the hous-
ing from the headlight bracket.
5B. On 2001-on XVS1100 models, remove the
headlight housing bolts and remove the housing
from the headlight bracket.
5C. On XVS1100A models, remove the two head-
light housing bolts (C,

) and remove the
housing from the bracket on the lower fork bridge.
Watch for the washer and collar on each bolt.
6. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note the
following:
a. Make sure the electrical connectors are free
of corrosion and are pushed tightly together.
b. Adjust the headlight as described in this chap-
ter.
c. Torque the headlight housing bolts to 8 N•m
(71 in.-lb.).
Headlight Adjustment
Adjust the headlight horizontally and vertically
according to the Department of Motor Vehicles reg-
ulations in your area.
1999-2000 XVS1100 models
The horizontal adjuster on these models is at 2
o’clock (A,
Figure 62
) on the front of the headlight
rim and the vertical adjuster is at 8 o’clock (B).
1. To adjust the beam to the right, turn the horizon-
tal adjuster clockwise. To adjust the beam to the left,
turn the adjuster counterclockwise.
2. To raise the beam, turn the vertical adjuster
clockwise. To lower the beam, turn the adjuster
counterclockwise.
2001-on XVS1100 models
The horizontal adjuster on these models is at 4
o’clock (A,
Figure 63
) on the side of the headlight
housing and the vertical adjuster is at 8 o’clock on
the housing (B,
Figure 63
).
1. To adjust the beam to the right, turn the horizon-
tal adjuster counterclockwise. To adjust the beam to
the left, turn the adjuster clockwise.
2. To raise the beam, turn the vertical adjuster
clockwise. To lower the bear, turn the adjuster
counterclockwise.
