4. Test the starting circuit cutoff relay (SCCR) by
performing the continuity test described in Chapter
Nine.
5. Test the starting system diode by performing the
SCCR diode test described in Chapter Nine.
6. Test the continuity of the starter relay (Chapter
Nine).
7. Check the continuity of the main switch (Chap-
ter Nine).
8. Check the continuity of the engine stop switch
(Chapter Nine).
9. Check the continuity of the neutral switch
(Chapter Nine).
10. Check the continuity of the sidestand switch
(Chapter Nine).
11. Check the continuity of the clutch switch
(Chapter Nine).
12. Check the continuity of the start switch (Chap-
ter Nine).
13. Test the continuity of the diode as described in
Ignition System
of Chapter Nine.
14. Check the wiring and each connector in the
starting circuit.
Lighting System
The lighting system consists of the headlight, tail-
light, high beam indicator light, meter illumination
lights and front turn signal/position light.
1. Check the affected bulb.
2. Check the main fuse and the headlight fuse.
3. Check the battery as described in Chapter Three.
4. Check the continuity of the main switch (Chap-
ter Nine).
5. Check the continuity of the dimmer switch
(Chapter Nine).
6. Check the continuity of the pass switch (Chapter
Nine).
7. On models with a pass light, check the wiring
and each connector in the lighting circuit (Chapter
Nine).
8. Locate the symptom among the following de-
scriptions and perform the indicated tests.
The headlight and high beam indicator
do not turn on
1. Check the continuity of the headlight bulb and
socket.
2. Perform the headlight voltage test in Chapter
Nine.
A meter light does not turn on
1. Check the continuity of the affected meter bulb
and socket.
2. Perform the meter indicator light test in Chapter
Nine.
The taillight does not turn on
NOTE
Refer to
Signal System
if the brake
light does not turn on.
1. Check the continuity of the taillight bulb and
socket.
2. Perform the taillight test in Chapter Nine.
Signal System
The signal system includes the horn, turn signal
lights, brake light and indicator lights (except the
high beam indicator, which is part of the lighting
system).
1. Check the main fuse and the signal system fuse.
2. Check the battery as described in Chapter Three.
3. Check the continuity of the main switch (Chap-
ter Nine).
4. Check the wiring and each connector in the sig-
nal system circuit.
5. Locate the symptom among the following de-
scriptions and perform the indicated tests.
The horn does not sound
Perform the horn circuit test in Chapter Nine.
The brake light does not turn on
1. Check the continuity of the brake light bulb and
socket.
2. Check the continuity of the affected brake light
switch (Chapter Nine).
3. Perform the brake light test in
Taillight/Brake
Light
in Chapter Nine.
