Mainshaft Disassembly

1. Clean the assembled shaft in solvent. Dry all
components with compressed air or let the assembly
sit on rags to drip dry.
2. Remove the snap ring and washer from the
mainshaft.
3. Slide fifth gear from the mainshaft, then slide off
the second-third combination gear.
4. Remove the snap ring and the washer.
5. Remove fourth gear from the mainshaft.
6. Inspect the mainshaft (
Figure 18
) and gears as
described in this chapter.
