2. Disconnect the headlight connector (A,
Figure
54
) from the bulb and remove the lens assembly.
3. Disconnect the front turn signal bullet connec-
tors (B,
Figure 54
) for the affected turn signal.
4. Feed the turn signal wires out through the hole in
the headlight housing.
5. Remove the nut from the clamp bolt (C,
Figure
83
, typical), and pull the turn signal assembly and
its wires from the mounting stalk.
6. Installation is the reverse of removal.
a. On XVS1100A models, make sure the
damper is in place on the mounting stalk.
b. Apply a dielectric compound to the electrical
connectors prior to reconnecting them.
c. Make sure the electrical connectors are free
of corrosion and are completely coupled to
each other.
Rear turn signal
1. Locate and disconnect the bullet connectors for
the affected turn signal assembly. On XVS1100A
models, these are located in the housing behind the
license plate (
Figure 74
).
2. Loosen and remove the nut from the turn signal
clamp bolt (C,
Figure 83
, typical).
3. Pull the turn signal assembly and its wiring from
the mounting stalk. Watch for the damper.
4. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note the
following:
a. On XVS1100A models, make sure the
damper is in place.
b. Apply a dielectric compound to the electrical
connectors prior to reconnecting them. This
will help seal out moisture.
c. Make sure the electrical connectors are free
of corrosion and are completely coupled to
each other.
Turn Signal Flash Test
Perform the following check if a turn signal light
or the turn signal indicator light does not flash.
1. Remove the flasher relay as described later in
this chapter.
NOTE
On USA, California and Canada
models, the flasher relay connector is
a five pin connector. It is a three pin
connector on Europe and Australia
models.
2. Check the input voltage into the relay as follows:
a. Set a voltmeter to the DV 20 volt range.
b. Disconnect the five-pin connector (C,
Figure
85
) from the relay.
c. Connect the voltmeter positive test lead to the
brown terminal in the harness side of the con-
nector (A,
Figure 86
). Connect the voltmeter
negative test lead to a good ground.
