11.
Exit service code 521 and
turn the machine off
. Remove the motor as described earlier.
Installing the Z-axis motor
1.
Fit the coupler to the new motor (observing the alignment mark made earlier) and tighten the
coupler bolts. Offer the motor up to the mount, align the marks on the two coupler halves and
engage the coupler. Tighten the M8 motor SHCS screws to 24Nm (18 ft-lbs). Connect the encoder
and power cables to the motor.
2.
Power up the machine and press SERVO ON button.
3.
Go to Service Code 505 to check the Z Index Angle (note: Machine reads “0” for all axes).
4.
Move the head all the way up to the Z axis home switch. A flashing message will show up on the
screen that says “POS Z AXIS LIMIT SWITCH” once you reach the switch. Make sure to move into
this switch at the finest resolution of the EHW.
5.
If the alignment marks have been correctly aligned, the index angle should be within specification.
If not, make a note of the angle and subtract this figure from 180° to determine how much the
index angle is out from optimum.
6.
Lower the head until the upper coupling bolts are just accessible.
E-Stop the machine
then fully
loosen one upper coupling bolt. Reset the E-Stop, go back into code 505, then, slowly lower the
head further, until the second bolt is accessible.
7.
Remove the Z axis brake cable from the computer module to hold the ballscrew in position.
E-stop
the machine
and fully loosen the second, upper coupling bolt.
8.
Reset the E-Stop and go back into Service code 505.
9.
Use the EHW to rotate the motor shaft inside of the coupling from its current positon by the amount
the index angle was out (determined in step 5).
10.
E-Stop the machine
, then tighten one of the upper coupling bolts. Make sure there is a gap of
2.5mm between the coupler halves.
11.
Reconnect the Z Axis Brake cable to the output port on the computer module.
12.
Reset the E-Stop, go back into code 505, then, slowly lower the head again until the second bolt is
accessible.
13.
Tighten the second bolt and torque to 24Nm (18ft-lbs). Further lower the head until the first bolt is
accessible and tighten this to a final torque of 24Nm (18ft-lbs). Remember to
E-Stop the
machine
each time you have to access the coupler bolts.
14.
Move the head up to the home position and re-check the index angle. Repeat the setup procedure
if it is not within specification (180° ±45
°).
15.
Home the machine. Go to Service Code 505 and check Index Angle once more.
16.
Enter service code 520 and press the “Input Table” tab to set Z tool change height.
a.
Place a tool holder in any pocket. Jog the X and Y axes to the pockets coordinates that are
displayed in the table.
b.
Press the orient spindle tab.
c.
Press the tool unclamp tab.
d.
Using the EHW, highlight the Z Tool Change dialogue box.
e.
Jog the Z-axis towards the tool holder, change to .002” resolution as you get close to the
tool holder. As the spindle goes over the tool holder, listen for the air to stop escaping from
around the tool holder, then back up one click. Enter the Z tool change offset that is
displayed in the lower right hand grey box. Press ABS Set.
