4. Loosen the 2 clamp screws on the motor coupler.
5. Remove 5 of the 6 bolts that holds the spindle cartridge up inside of the head. Loosen the 6
bolt as well.
6. Jog the Z-axis downward toward the table and place the spindle nose on top of a block of
wood.
7. Remove the last bolt and now move the head up with the handwheel to expose the spindle
cartridge.
8. Install the new spindle cartridge in reverse order. It is recommended to perform tightening of
the screws crosswise in order to prevent any distortion of the hub. Tighten the bolts to 11Nm
(8ft-lbs).
9. It is very important to re-set both the clamp and unclamp switches to suit the new spindle.
Adjust each switch so that the actuator plate (D) fully depresses the operating plunger of the
relevant switch (but ensuring there is still a small amount of plunger travel left to avoid
damaging the switch).
10. Enter service code 510 to set spindle orientation and follow the on-screen instructions.
6.11 Spindle/Motor Coupling Alignment
When a motor or spindle is replaced on the 2 OP, it is important that the motor to spindle coupling is
aligned and there is minimal runout, both axially and radially. The procedure below explains how to align
and install the coupling.
1. Remove the front cover on the head to gain access to the spindle coupling.
2. Remove the bracket that holds the clamp and unclamp switches.
3. Slide one half of the coupling on the spindle motor shaft as far up as it will go and lightly
tighten the clamp screw so it does not slide down on its own.
4. Slide the other half of the coupling with the urethane middle piece onto the spindle shaft and
lightly tighten the clamp screw, like on the motor shaft.
5. Install the spindle in the spindle housing and snug the spindle mtg. screws slightly and then
just break them loose.
