AurorANet
What is AurorANet?
AurorANet is a proprietary 2-wire RS-485 protocol used to communicate between Vicon’s AurorA2000
multiplexers, AurorAcorD digital recorders, other AurorANet keyboards and connection devices. One
AurorANet device is designated as the system bus controller. Regardless of which device is the system bus
controller, any AurorAcorD may control any other AurorAcorD in the system using AurorANet.
How do I get started?
Connect your AurorAcorDs on a 2-wire RS-485 daisy-chain as discussed in the Installation chapter. Make
sure your AurorANet termination box is connected correctly. Resistors in the termination box should be
removed if the AurorAcorD is not the last device in the RS-485 connection line. Resistors should be left as is
for the last (end-of-line) device. Note that the Reference chapter includes information on setting jumpers
inside the AurorAcorD as an alternative method to using the AurorANet termination box. To make menu
selections for AurorANet, perform the following procedure.
Note: Choose AurorANet on the Serial Port 1 or Serial Port 2 screens, as discussed in the Serial Ports
section of the Programming chapter. If you have not changed the factory default internal jumper
settings, using com 1 will be the most convenient port to use (you will not have to change the jumpers).
Refer to the Reference chapter for more information.

2. Administrators may find it useful to access the AurorANet Statistics screen. All of the menu items with an
asterisk should display “0” to indicate proper settings and wiring. If the menu items with asterisks are not
displaying “0”, check all AurorANet settings and wiring. You may add units to the AurorANet bus one at a
time to isolate the problem. Note that every AurorAcorD receives all of the data on the AurorANet bus,
even the data that it is transmitting. The menu items without an asterisk should change as data is
received. If they do not, the system controller may not be working properly. Ascertain which unit is the
system controller and check all wiring to that device.
3. Return to the More AurorANet Setup screen. View the AurorA2000 remote keyboards and system
consoles that are responding to AurorANet polls by selecting List Active Keyboards. This can be of
assistance during troubleshooting procedures.
4. Set the address of this unit. Each AurorAcorD must have a separate address from 1 to 32 and may not be
the same address as any VCR in your system.
