Operations procedure
1. Connect the Analyzer to a telephone cable
according to scheme in Fig.6 3B option.
2. Turn on PTS in the room.
3. Turn on LFA.
4. Set type of the tested cable ("non twisted", ## 3,4,5,6 wires)
5. Connect headphones to the main unit. Set the volume level.
6. Set the maximum gain (60 dB).
7. Turn on the AUTOMATED mode (press "F4").
The Analyzer will start searching all possible combinations of wires, stopping at each
combination for a few seconds. In this case, the operator has the opportunity to analyze the
received signal according to the information in the headphones. The tabular cursor indicates the
current wire combination to be tested. At the end of the cycle, scanning will stop.
Possible options of results of test and their interpretation
Option #1
Pair 3-6
Voltage is absent
The PTS signal is not heard
The dynamic microphone is not detected.
It is possible that an electret microphone is
installed on the cable that is not powered at the
time of testing.
Testing is required with bias voltage applied in
accordance with 7.1.1.1.

The PTS signal is not heard
Option #2

Voltage is absent
The PTS signal is heard
A dynamic microphone or electret microphone is
installed on the cable. The electret microphone can
be powered from its own source (possibly from a
telephone line).
It is necessary to localize the microphone using
the PTS.

The PTS signal is not heard
Option #3
Pair 3-6
Voltage is DC 3-20 V
The PTS signal is heard
On the cable the electret microphone with a
"phantom" power supply on wires ##3 and 6 is
installed.
It is necessary to localize the microphone using of
PTS.

Voltage is DC 12 V
The PTS signal is not heard
The algorithm of localization of microphones is described in
7.1.1.1. ACTIVATION OF ELECTRET MICROPHONES
If earlier, during testing, a dynamic microphone was not detected (option No. 1 of the previous
paragraph), it is possible that an electret microphone was installed on the cable that was not
powered at the time of testing.
Test with giving of bias voltage is required.
