Dial
When operating in STE, STU-III or SCIP traffic mode, the STE supports Secure Dial transmit and receive.
Transmission of Secure Dial characters is performed by the DTE escaping from On-Line State (via
escape code or DTR (Data Terminal Ready) Escape Signal) and then issuing the ATDn command. When
sending Secure Dial digits, only digits 0 through 9, *, # and A through D should be included in “n”. If the
transmission is successful, an OK result code will be returned. If the far-end cannot accept Secure Dial
digits and is in STU-III traffic mode, the STE is not in STE, STU-III, or SCIP traffic mode, or the command
contains invalid digits, an ERROR result code will be returned. Following the result code return, the
connection can be returned to On-Line State by the DTE issuing the ATO0 command.
If Secure Dial digits are received while the STE is in the STE, STU-III, or SCIP On-Line State, the STE
buffers the digits. It then toggles the DCD (Data Carrier Detect) signal to alert the DTE that a status
change has taken place (the STE also toggles DCD in case of a disconnect). To retrieve the Secure Dial
