Upon power up or reset,
ALARM
will glow and remain on until all Crypto Card alarm tests have been
successfully completed. When all alarm tests have been successfully completed, the indicator will remain
on until a Crypto Card is inserted, the alarm check is successfully completed, and the terminal is placed
into remote control mode.
3-2.1.8 Call Appearance Indicators
CALL1
and
CALL2
provide the status of each call currently being handled by the STE.
CALL2
is not
used in the present configuration but will illuminate briefly during power-up tests.
CALL1
is off when the STE is in an idle state and flashes YELLOW slowly (0.5 seconds on, 0.5 seconds
off) when an incoming call is being received (ringing). It flashes fast (0.2 second on, 0.8 seconds off)
when the STE is establishing a secure association and is on when the association is completed or data is
being transferred.
3-2.1.9 Reset
Button
When pressed,
RESET
restarts the STE. All configuration settings stored in non-volatile memory are
retained.
NOTE
The
RESET
button is recessed. Thus, you must use an object similar to the tip of
a ballpoint pen to press the button.
3-2.1.10 Zeroize Button
When you press
ZEROIZE
, the STE resets to the factory default settings. However, if the Initial Secure
Mode was set to “Secure-Only”, the Initial Secure Mode is not reset to “Auto-Secure”. All User
Associations established for the STE are removed, as is the assigned TPA.
ZEROIZE
should not be
used by operational users except in an emergency destruction situation.
3-2.2
STE TOOL/STE VIRTUAL FRONT PANEL
The STE Virtual Front Panel, shown in Figure 3-9, provides an alphanumeric display, control keys and
indicators for the STE. Physically, the Virtual Front Panel is a software application running on a PC which
is connected to the CEU, Data STE, and STE-R models console port connector using one of the PC’s
serial ports. The term Virtual Front Panel refers to the graphic representation of the Office/Tactical STE
Front Panel which is available with STE Tools version 4.7. When you use STE Tools, it allows you to
operate the CEU, Data STE, and STE-R models like an Office Tactical STE. Use Virtual Front Panel,
which is presented by the “Front Panel Tool” running in the Console Terminal, to program the STE and
Crypto Card. The four Soft Keys,
MODE
key and the
MENU
key are the only keys normally used, except
when executing a Rekey, with the Dial Pad Keys active. Refer to
the STE Toolset software.
3-2.2.1 STE
Tools
You can use the STE Tools for several tasks, including downloading, which applies to all versions of the
STE and the Virtual Front Panel, which is shown in
Figure 3-9
.
