Rel. 2.6
To Deactivate the Mute function for both the handset and the speakerphone microphone press the MUTE
button and the associated LED will go out. Outgoing audio is enabled and incoming audio can be heard.
9-4.1.20 Redial (Local to the STE)
Pressing the REDIAL button (Local to the STE) will automatically redial the last number dialed from the
dial pad.
9-4.1.21 Ring/Idle Preference
Ring or idle preference is a switch selectable feature provisioned by the switch administrator. If ring
preference is selected at the switch, the switch connects you to the ringing call appearance when you put
the terminal in an off-hook state. If more than one call is ringing, the switch connects you to the older
(first-in) ringing call appearance. If idle preference is selected at the switch, the switch connects you to
an idle appearance when you put the terminal in an off-hook state. Connection to an idle appearance will
occur even if an incoming call is ringing at another call appearance. The STE responds to messages
from the switch to invoke this preference.
Ring/Idle preference is not applicable to data-bearer call appearance behavior.
9-4.1.22 Transfer
Pressing the Transfer (XFER) button transfers a non-secure voice call to another voice terminal.
Using the Transfer (XFER) button to transfer a call.
If a non-secure call is connected, press the transfer (XFER) button and the associated LED lights. The
call is automatically placed on hold and the LED of the call appearance being transferred blinks (slow
On/off).
A new call appearance is automatically activated (dial tone is heard) [if a new call appearance is not
made available automatically, you select an available line appearance].
Dial the destination number.
When the call is answered (you announce the call) press transfer (XFER) a second time and the call is
transferred and the transferring terminal is disconnected.
NOTE
If the called line is busy, you must press DROP, then press the original call's line
appearance to return to the original call.

5ESS Supported Features
The local 5ESS switch administrator must configure features to be assigned to the specific terminal.
Features can be assigned to specific buttons, can be controlled by class of service, or can be enabled or
disabled for the entire switch, depending upon the specific feature. The features below are specific to the
5ESS switch type when used with a STE, which is set to the STE-8510 switch type.
9-4.2.1 Inspect (5ESS Specific Implementation)
The Inspect feature on the 5ESS switch acts differently than that on the DEFINITY switch. The 5ESS
switch provides information for normal or shared call appearance buttons as well as feature buttons.
When the feature button assigned to INSPECT is pressed the 5ESS switch will provide the message
“Inspect is on” for the STE to display. The Inspect feature will automatically deactivate if not used for 1
minute. Pressing the Inspect feature button, a second time will deactivate the feature. When the Inspect
feature is activated, the call appearance ID (call appearance/feature button number) and information
about the party on the selected call appearance button will be provided by the switch during alerting, held
calls, and active calls. If there is no call associated with the selected call appearance button, the switch
will provide the call appearance ID and “NO CALL” for the STE to display. If a feature button is selected,
the switch will provide the call appearance ID along with a brief description of the feature programmed on
the selected feature button for the STE to display.
