The type of wedge distinguishes the difference between the Office and Tactical STE Desk Sets. At
initialization, the STE detects the type of wedge installed, then limits operations and displays to the
services supported by that wedge.
•
Both terminals use the same base unit that offers an RJ-45 connection for an Integrated
Service Digital Network (ISDN), a DB-25 serial connection for a local PC or FAX, and a
DB-9 connection for a power supply.
•
The Office Wedge provides an RJ-11 connection to a Public Switched Telephone Network
(PSTN).
•
The Tactical Wedge also provides a RJ-11 connection for PSTN, either a Molex connector
or spring posts for a Tri-Service Tactical Communications (TRI-TAC) network, and a DB-25
connection for a BDI (Black Digital Interface) EIA-530A/EIA-232 network.
The type of wedge distinguishes the difference between the STE-R and STE-RT terminals. At -
`initialization, the STE detects the type of wedge installed, then limits operations and displays to the
services supported by that wedge. The CEU, STE-R, STE-RI, and STE-RT use the same STE.
•
The STE provides connections for ISDN service and a Red Serial Data Port on the rear
panel and a Console Port on the front panel. It also provides a remote audio (voice
operation) on the CEU, STE-R, STE-RI and STE-RT.
•
The Wedge on the Data STE provides a connection for PSTN service.
•
The STE-RT wedge provides connection for PSTN, TRI-TAC, and BDI service.
•
The CEU and STE-RI do not use a wedge. They are attached to a mounting plate for use
in specialized secure voice conferencing systems.
