After drilling, the holes must be cleaned, chips removed, and the area adequately
protected against corrosion.
See chapter 4.1.5 "Corrosion protection".
4.1.3
Bolted connection work
At all times, the bolts and nuts specified in the regulations should be used and pro
-
vided with the proper torque. Bolting work must be carried out on dry surfaces and
in the right conditions.
As a general rule, the removal or replacement of bolted connections which are in
-
corporated in the original vehicle is not allowed. If for any reason they must be re
-
moved, they should be replaced in the same location and with the same torque once
the work is finished. Do not reuse the old inserts, sleeves etc., use new ones with
the same properties. Should it be necessary to install longer screws, they must have
the same properties, or superior, as the originals screws.
The type of screws to be used and their main features are shown below:
Table 1-35 SPBTC Screw types and main features
NOTICE
The accident prevention standards, laws and regulations of each country should
be always respected.
To obtain more detailed information about maintenance and damage prevention.
See General Book, chapter 4.3 "Drilling works preventions".
NOTICE
To obtain information about bolted connection conditions and preventions.
See General Book, chapter 4.4 "Bolted connections preventions".
CAUTION
- No manipulation or replacement of the screws is allowed in systems considered
relevant from the point of view of safety, such as steering system, brakes, etc.
- If it is necessary to loosen these screws for constructive reasons, they should
be returned to their original positions and with the right torque.
- If new screws have to be used, they must have at least the same properties as
the originals.
