4.10.3 SCR technology and AdBlue product
In Hyundai vehicles, a gas reduction system based in SCR technology (Selective Cat
-
alytic Reduction) is usedin order to comply with legislation on exhaust. This tech
-
nology requires the use of a product called AUS 32 (also known as AdBlue), which
contains a 32.5 % urea solution.
This system consists of the following main components:
- A tank for AdBlue product.
- A pump module.
- AdBlue product pipelines.
- A dosing module for AdBlue product.
- An exhaust muffler with integrated catalytic converter.
The AdBlue product contained in the tank, (usually heated), is injected through a
dosing module in the exhaust pipe at the height of the collector, through a pipe driv
-
ing. Once the AdBlue product is injected into the SCR system, this triggers a chemical
reaction in the catalytic converter, which converts the NO
x
into a mixture of nitro
-
gen and water vapour, both natural substances to the environment.

ENVIRONMENT
The product AdBlue has a limited life. When the product has to be changed
because it no longer has the appropriate properties, and it is replaced by a new
product, the AdBlue tank should be filled properly, and the old product disposed
of in compliance with laws and regulations of each country.
