The Body Builder will be responsible for all modification work carried out during
installation of the tail lift. He must relocate the rear underride guard, or to install a
new one in accordance with the new features, and also check for proper visibility
of the rear lights, towing device, etc., always taking into account the standards
applicable in each country.
See chapter 4.12.2 "Underride guards".
See chapter 7.5 "Lighting guidelines"
After the installation of the tail lift, the spare wheel must be accessible and easy to
dismount so that one man can remove it rapidly by himself.
See chapter 4.12.3 "Spare wheel".
Load considerations
When using the tail lift, even at maximum capacity and in the most unfavorable cir
-
cumstances, the maximum permissible load on the rear axle of the vehicle must not
be exceeded.
Likewise, care must be taken with the minimum load on the front axle, to ensure
proper steerability of the vehicle.
See chapter 2.3.3 "Weight distribution".
The Body Builder must calculate the weight distribution on the axles, checking that
it remain within permissible limits. If, after calculating the load distribution on the
vehicle, the maximum permissible axle loads are exceeded, the wheelbase or rear
overhang of the vehicle should be shortened.
See chapter 4.2 "Chassis frame modifications".
Depending on the case, and according to the magnitude of the load, it might be ad
-
visable to install support feet. HMC recommends installing these even in cases in
which the calculations do not indicate their necessity. The support feet must be
fixed to the structure of the gate and, if possible, be operated by a hydraulic system.
NOTICE
- The installation of a tail lift must not in any way affect the operation of other
groups installed in the vehicle.
- The manufacturer's instructions for the installation and operation of the tail
lift should be considered at all times.
CAUTION
Care must be taken not to install electronic equipment or wires in the vicinity of
the vehicle‘s exhaust pipe.
