4.12 Additional equipment
4.12.1 General considerations
The use of parts or additional equipment not approved by HMC can have a negative
influence on the operation of the vehicle. For this reason, prior to the installation
of these elements, the Body Builder should ensure that the equipment used is ap
-
proved. It should also follow and enforce the manuals from different manufacturers
that supply the products to be installed.
As a general rule, auxiliary equipment such as an extra spare wheel, underride pro
-
tection, etc. is set on the chassis frame. Screwed brackets are usually used to con
-
nect this equipment.
The proper support, the number and size of screws, etc., will be selected depending
of the total weight of the equipment and the location of its centre of gravity, as well
as the minimum distance between it and the ground or other vehicle components
that needs to be respected.
In order to better resist bending moments, it is recommended that the support
equipment should be installed as close to the chassis crossbars as possible.
Additional crossbars must not be mounted on the chassis frame, as this could affect
the bending capacity of the vehicle. However, it is possible to reinforce the longitu
-
dinal beam web with stiffeners.
NOTICE
The type approval regulations of each country must be considered.
NOTICE
- For more information on bolted joints in the chassis:
See chapter 4.1.3 "Bolted connection work".
- For more information on maintenance and damage prevention:
See General Book, chapterhapter 4.4 "Bolted connections prevention“.
NOTICE
- Additional equipment subsequently installed in the vehicle, must not interfere
with the proper operation of other equipment installed in the vehicle, or with
the body itself. Clearances should always be respected.
See chapter 2.3.11 "Body and chassis clearances".
- When installing new components, the new load distribution on the vehicle
should be analysed, to check that it is within the permissible limits.
See chapter 2.3.3 "Weight distribution".
