Electrical System
IMPORTANT: Refer to the Safety section of this manual for
detailed battery servicing safety information.
The electrical system is a 12 volt, negative ground. The rec-
ommended battery size is:
Garden tractor BCI group U1R with a 225 or better
cranking AMP rating.
A maintenance-free battery is recommended. Otherwise,
follow battery manufacturer’s maintenance, safety, storing
and charging specifications.
Master In-Line Fuse
These mowers have a master in-line fuse (40 amp) in the
electrical system. This is the main fuse to protect the com-
plete electrical system. It is located next to the starter sole-
noid which is mounted on the left front of the engine.

Hydraulic System
IMPORTANT: Never use hydraulic or automatic transmis-
sion fluid in this system; use only specified oil. Remember,
dirt is the primary enemy of any hydraulic system. Check oil
level in hydraulic system after every 50 hours of operation or
weekly, whichever occurs first. Check more often if system
appears to be leaking or otherwise malfunctioning.
When checking the hydraulic system’s oil level:
1. Always check oil level with the mower on level ground.
2. Always check oil level when the oil is cold (mower has
not run for at least 1.5 hours).
3. Always check oil level with the dipstick installed and
tightened.
IMPORTANT: Full level when oil is cold is anywhere on
the dipstick, up to the “H” or "FULL" line. Oil must not
be above the "H" or "FULL" (High mark). Figure 4-2 and

Change hydraulic system filter element and oil after first
750 hours of mower operation, then replace filter and oil in
reservoir every 500 hours thereafter.
Never attempt to make any adjustments to the
mower deck while the engine is running or with the
deck drive clutch engaged. Mower blades cannot
be seen and are located very close to the deck
housing. Fingers and toes can be cut off instantly.
