C.3.4 Category C4
If the provisions under Category C3 cannot be met, the requirements of the standard can be met as follows:
1. It is ensured that no excessive emission is propagated to neighboring low-voltage networks. In some cases, the inherent
suppression in transformers and cables is sufficient. If in doubt, the supply transformer with static screening between the
primary and secondary windings can be used.

2. An EMC plan for preventing disturbances is drawn up for the installation. A template is available from the local ABB
representative.
3. The motor and control cables are selected as specified in the hardware manual.
4. The drive is installed according to the instructions given in the hardware manual.
WARNING!
A drive of category C4 is not intended to be used on a low-voltage public network which supplies
domestic premises. Radio frequency interference is expected if the drive is used on such a
network.
C.4 UL Marking
cULus Listed UL Type 1 (IP21) drives:
• frames R1 to R3 of voltage range 208…240V
• frames R1 to R9 of voltage ranges 380…415V and 380…500V
• frames R5 to R9 of voltage range 525…600V
cULus Listed UL Type 12 (IP55) drives:
• frames R1 to R3 of voltage range 208…240V
• frames R1 to R5 of voltage ranges 380…415V and 380…500V
• frames R5 of voltage range 525…600V
The listing is pending for the other types. The approval is valid with rated voltages.
C.4.1 UL Checklist
• The drive is to be used in a heated, indoor controlled environment. The drive must be installed in clean air according to
enclosure classification. Cooling air must be clean, free from corrosive materials and electrically conductive dust.
• The maximum ambient air temperature is 40°C (104°F) at rated current. The current is derated for 40 to 55°C (104 to
131°F).
• The drive is suitable for use in a circuit capable of delivering not more than 100,000 rms symmetrical amperes, 600 V
maximum. The ampere rating is based on tests done according to UL508C.
• The cables located within the motor circuit must be rated for at least 75°C (167°F) in UL-compliant installations.
• The input cable must be protected with fuses. Circuit breakers must not be used without fuses in the USA. See hardware
manual for suitable IEC (class aR) fuses and UL (class T) fuses. For suitable circuit breakers, contact your local ABB
representative.
• For installation in the United States, branch circuit protection must be provided in accordance with the National Electrical
Code (NEC) and any applicable local codes. To fulfill this requirement, use the UL classified fuses.
• For installation in Canada, branch circuit protection must be provided in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code
and any applicable provincial codes. To fulfill this requirement, use the UL classified fuses.
• The drive provides overload protection in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
