Deploying SIP phones
For massive deployment of SIP phones, it is preferable to configure the phones through
downloading via a TFTP server.
The SIP phones are in DHCP mode, and the TFTP protocol is confirmed by default in the factory
settings.
If the phone has a different configuration, restore the factory settings:
•
Refer to the chapter “Restoring the factory settings of the SIP phone”, page 20.
or
•
Refer to the chapter “Restoring the factory settings of the SIP Phone”, page 27
The DHCP server provides the phone with an IP address and the TFTP server reference (name or
IP address).
It must be made accessible from the ToIP VLAN, if necessary, by configuring a DHCP relay in the
inter-VLAN router.
The TFTP server must contain:
•
The global configuration of the SIP phones (aastra.cfg)
•
A file for each phone (@MAC.cfg). This file contains the specific parameters: phone number,
GSI gateway address, etc.
•
The firmware for each type of SIP phone available in the installation.
•
The language packs (lang_fr_eu.txt,...
SIP phones without PC:
Connect the phone to a port in access mode on the 'Phones' VLAN: the phone is configured during
start-up by the DHCP server and obtains its configuration through TFTP. It is then operational.
SIP phones with PC:
In this configuration, the phone is connected to a port that supports ‘Phones’ and ‘Data’ VLANs: it
must mark its frames on a VLAN.
1
st
solution:
Configure the ‘Phones’ VLAN number directly on the phone.
Connect the phone to the trunk port (‘Phones’ + ‘Data’ VLAN): the phone will send its DHCP
request to the ‘Phones’ VLAN and obtain its full configuration.
2
nd
solution:
Set a ‘Phones’ VLAN port to access mode to load the SIP phones.
Connect an SIP phone with factory settings to this port: it performs its DHCP and obtains its full
configuration. However, the phone does not work on this port because it is now configured on
VLAN on a port in access mode.
Connect the SIP phone to the port in ‘trunk’ mode and connect the PC.
Caution: If there are no standalone phones and phones with PC, it is better to create two phone
VLANs: ‘Standalone_phones’ VLAN and ‘Phones_withPC’ VLAN.
