42.7.2 Filename Conventions
The configurat ion file ( also known as t he r om file or ROM) cont ains t he fact or y default set t ings in t he
scr eens such as passw or d, Swit ch set up, I P Set up, and so on. Once you have cust om ized t he
Swit ch’s set t ings, t hey can be saved back t o your com put er under a filenam e of your choosing.
ZyNOS ( ZyXEL Net w or k Operat ing Syst em som et im es r efer r ed t o as t he “ ras” file) is t he syst em
fir m war e and has a “ bin” filenam e ext ension.
42.7.2.1 Example FTP Commands
ftp> put firmware.bin ras
This is a sam ple FTP session show ing t he t ransfer of t he com put er file " fir m war e.bin" t o t he Sw it ch.
ftp> get config config.cfg
This is a sam ple FTP session saving t he cur r ent configurat ion t o a file called “ config.cfg” on your
com put er.
I f your ( T) FTP client does not allow you t o have a dest inat ion filenam e differ ent t han t he sour ce,
you w ill need t o r enam e t hem as t he Sw it ch only r ecognizes “ config” and “ ras”. Be sur e you keep
unalt er ed copies of bot h files for lat er use.
Be sure to upload the correct model firmware as uploading the wrong
model firmware may damage your device.
42.7.3 FTP Command Line Procedure
1 Launch t he FTP client on your com put er.

3 Pr ess [ENTER] w hen pr om pt ed for a user nam e.

Ent er your passw or d as r equest ed ( t he default is “ 1234” ) .
5 Ent er bin t o set t ransfer m ode t o binar y.
