socket, press the bearing from each side of the
drive yoke.
c. Remove the driven yoke (C,
Figure 46
) from
the drive yoke (B).
4. Hold the drive yoke with the universal joint
holder (A,
Figure 48
) and loosen the middle driven
shaft nut (B).
5. Remove the universal joint holder, and remove
the middle driven shaft nut and its washer.
6. Remove the drive yoke, rotor (B,
Figure 45
) and
the speed sensor bracket (C).
7. Remove the bearing housing and O-ring. Dis-
card the O-ring.
8. Remove the washer and collar from the middle
driven shaft.
9. Remove the washer, the collapsible collar and
the washer. Discard the collapsible collar. Install a
new one during assembly.
10. Remove the middle driven shaft.
11. If necessary, disassemble the bearing housing
as follows:
a. Pry the oil seal from the housing.
b. Remove the bearing retainer and the O-ring.
Discard the O-ring.
c. Use a drift to drive the bearing from the bear-
ing housing.
12. If necessary, remove the bearing from the end
of the middle driven shaft.
Assembly
1. Install the bearing onto the inboard end of the
middle driven shaft if it was removed. Thoroughly
lubricate the bearing with engine oil.
2. If the bearing housing was disassembled, assem-
ble it as follows:
a. Lubricate the bearing with engine oil and set
the bearing into the bearing housing.
b. Use a driver or socket that matches the diame-
ter of the outer race to drive the bearing in un-
til it bottoms in the housing.
c. Lubricate a new O-ring with lithium soap
grease and install the O-ring into the bearing
housing.
d. Install the bearing retainer.
e. Pack the lips of a new oil seal with lithium
soap grease and drive the oil seal in until it
bottoms in the housing. Use the same driver
used to install the bearing.
3. Install the middle driven shaft into the crank-
case.
4. Install a washer, a new collapsible collar and an-
other washer onto the middle driven shaft.
5. Slide the collar and washer onto the shaft.
