4. Lubricate the collar (A,
Figure 16
) with molyb-
denum disulfide grease and install the collar into the
pivot bearings.
5. Repeat Step 2, and install the thrust cover (
Fig-
ure 15
) onto the frame pivot on the left side.
6. Raise the swing arm into position so its pivots
are opposite the frame pivots. Insert the pivot bolt
(
Figure 18
) from the right side and turn it into the
threads in the left side of the swing arm.
7. Torque the swing arm pivot bolt to 90 N•m (66
ft.-lb.).
8. Install the suspension linkage and the shock ab-
sorber as described in this chapter.
9. Reinstall any removed components.
Inspection
1. Check the pivot bolt for straightness. A bent bolt
will restrict the movement of the swing arm.
2. Inspect the pivot threads (A,
Figure 19
) in the
swing arm. Clean and dress the threads as neces-
sary.
3. Check the welds (B,
Figure 19
) on the swing
arm for cracks or fractures.
4. Remove the collar (
Figure 20
) from the con-
necting arm pivot on the swing arm.
5. Check the swing arm pivot bearings (
Figure 21
)
as follows:
a. Turn each bearing (
Figure 21
) with a finger.
A bearing should turn smoothly without ex-
cessive play or noise.
b. Use a lint-free cloth to remove surface grease
from the bearings.
c. Check the bearing rollers for evidence of
wear, pitting or rust.
d. If either bearing is damaged, replace both
bearings. Refer to
Needle Bearing Replace
