5. Install the fork tube into the slider until the tube
bottoms.
6. Install the Yamaha damper rod holder onto the
T-handle. Insert the tool into the fork tube so the rod
holder engages the damper rod (
Figure 13
).
7. Slide a new copper washer onto the Allen bolt
(
Figure 23
).
8. Apply a medium-strength threadlocking com-
pound to the threads of the Allen bolt. Insert the
Allen bolt through the bottom of the slider and
thread it into the oil lock piece.
9. Hold the damper rod with the special tool (
Fig-
ure 24
) and tighten the Allen bolt to 30 N•m (22
ft.-lb.).
10. Slide a new slider bushing (E,
Figure 20
) and
washer (D) down the fork tube.
NOTE
Use the Yamaha fork seal driver and
adapter to install the slider bushing
and washer in the next step. If these
tools are not available, use a univer
sal oil seal driver or a piece of galva
nized pipe and a hammer. If both ends
of the pipe are threaded, wrap one end
with duct tape to prevent the threads
from damaging the interior of the
slider.
11. Drive the slider bushing and washer into
place (
Figure 25
) until the bushing bottoms in the
slider.
NOTE
The plastic wrap installed in the next
step protects the oil seal and dust seal
so they will not be torn during instal
lation.
